Sivasagar: White Fishing Nets And The Compulsory Maggi

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

The fragile heart had always wanted to run after golden deers. Out of the iron bars of worries, the mind had wondered about the pleasure of going to an unknown town and getting lost to find my true self. My partner and I had a good sleep in Hotel Talatal. We got ready for the evening session of exploration. The drama in the day had drained our energy to a large extent. We even had disheartening thoughts of booking the evening bus and getting back to Guwahati. The reason we had to continue with the trip had been only the urge to complete it and to at least not waste our money and time. We got dressed up for the evening and started walking on the streets. We had seen pink orchids on many trees on the way to Siva Dol exhibiting commensalism.

The beautiful commensal relationship had demonstrated how the association of kindness and peace would discover harmless remedies to cure humanity.

My partner had a mood spoilt since the drama. It had lasted along the walk till our eyes could see three magnificent domes. The largest dome was that of the Siva Dol. It was mighty. It was magical. We had entered the temple premises without any entry fee. The puffed face of my partner had suddenly retracted to its normal shape. His face story had been a simile to a poori which had been poked with a kitchen knife. He was happy. He was at peace. Such is the magic of the place. We took a round of the whole public property to have an idea of the greatness of the structures.

The Back View Of Siva Dol

The property had a sum total of three Dols - Siva Dol, Devi Dol and Vishnu Dol. The highest of them had been the Siva Dol. This temple of Lord Shiva looks pretty normal in the photos; however one could certainly understand the reasons behind its popularity. The massiveness of the structure can actually be observed when we compare any human standing just near the structure. There were carefully carved symmetrical patterns and designs on each and every corner of them. The tip of the dome of the Siva Dol is made of gold and that is a fact to remember for the clear distinction of it from other monuments in the upcoming blogs.

The popular large water tank was standing beside the Dols sustaining migratory life. The water had the power to move their wavy reflections along with less violent ripples. The tank is known as Sivasagar Tank as it is situated near the Siva Dol. They had referred the tanks as sagar which literally means sea; this pattern of nomenclature had been followed for every tank in the place. The Sivsagar Tank is also known as Borpukhuri (bor means big and pukhuri means pond) in the Assamese language. The tanks were named after the Dols near which they were created. Our assumption had jumped onto a rectifiable conclusion that since there is no major river near the place Sivasagar, these large tanks were constructed as water reservoirs to combat the possibilities of water scarcity. The people had come there in search of a reset button to mental integrity, calmness-discharging evening walk or to have some fun birdwatching. The realization that other tourists were also there had made it easier for us to gather the courage to dig deeper into the Sivasagar culture. Many things to notice, one of them was the iron boundary around the tanks. The fence details surrounding them were very interesting- a sample dome had been replicated and welded on them as you can check in the pictures below.

The world emits appreciation and flattery for true beauty and eye-candies respectively.

Sivasagar is a true beauty. Standing near the Borpukhuri brings a sense of relief, a feeling of the love that has been sent in the air by the intersection of natural intelligence and human creations. While planning for the trip, we had googled images an unbelievable picture of beauty of the reflection on Sivasagar tank of the Siva Dol on its opposite side. We had expected to see that view but later had realized that the particular view would only be visible during Maha Shivratri. It could be described as if the water had trapped fire flames inside it. However we were satisfied. We had stopped regretting the decision to continue with the trip. The tank had a spot for clicking beautiful pictures along with the tall Siva Dol. We had also loved the way the footpaths had been constructed without harming the trees because they had come first. We had spent about an hour there and then had left to see the evening life. A new Buddhism-themed structure- more like a stupa- has its construction going on which would also be a major add-on to the visiting checklist of a tourist.

The place had given out ghost town vibes during Sunday daylight hours. As the evening life had kick started, the town had started to look more lively. The shops had opened and the street lights had started to work. My partner had been struggling without a sandal in the hotel room, so he had to purchase a pair of sandals. Here you need to take a piece of advice from me. Always pack a pair of sandals which would certainly help if you would have to walk in the rain, otherwise it would turn out to be very uncomfortable throughout. I know we better not seek comfort while being on something exciting. Nobody gets on a trip to sleep in the hotel bed. I absolutely get it. If you do, do not waste your money my friend! So it would be better to take precautions rather than spoiling the fun. My partner had a daring nature, so he could adjust. But not everybody can do so.

We were busy appreciating the things we had seen when we were young. Hence we had forgotten to click pictures of them. There were white fishing nets hanging in the shops. There were cute wooden rhinos gazing into our eyes, wishing we would take them home with us. There stood few dimly lit cafés. The idea of café is very much different in Sivasagar than Guwahati. Families with kids and grandmas were also munching on fritters in the cafés, whereas the younger population especially students hold predominance over the same in Guwahati. The people there are inclined more towards their families which embraces the beautiful bonds shared among the people of different age. That is a take home message to spend quality time with our loved ones.

Our bodies were cold as our clothes were half wet due to the unstoppable rainfall. We had coffee at a roadside shop. As we were walking with shining eyes of admiration, we came across a small café to have something to eat. My partner did not have anything as he was full. The rainy season is incomplete without a plate of Maggi. So I had ordered vegetable Maggi, which was a little overpriced according to me. But again a portion of the bill had to be contributed to the ambience and seating arrangement and also to the air conditioner. The Maggi was average and it tasted okay. We had also packed some rotis for dinner as we previously had packed the leftover chicken masala during lunch which had been enough for another meal. We wrapped up our day with the dinner and finally went to sweeter-than-ever sleep. It had been a long long day.
