Sivasagar: Meeting That Genius And Some Tips For Your Sivasagar Trip

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

The sun was nowhere to be seen. The sunlight could send some rays through the white foamy clouds to light up the day in Sivsagar. I opened my hotel room window to check the downpour outside. There was a newly built bird's nest. It was half constructed. Maybe the bird had thought that the window would never open and hence it would be safe there. Or maybe the rain had compelled her to build one there whatsoever. At first when the bird saw me staring at its nest, it seemed to be a little afraid. I was aware and stood still for sometime, doing nothing at all. It flew away to some unknown address. As a few minutes had passed by, the bird I guess had gathered back her courage to come back to her place and continue working. She had been holding some curly friable strands of hay in her beak. She then put them in certain positions on the nest so that they took a specific shape. Sivasagar had been able to harbor and showcase some real architect geniuses- made by both men and birds. If such mornings aren't beautiful, what else are?

We got ready to seize the day and were out of the hotel at 11 a.m. We had planned to have a good brunch at some nice restaurant nearby. We truly were overwhelmed by the walk we had done the previous day. According to some mobile application on my partner's phone, we had covered approximately 10 kilometers on our feet. So we were kind of reluctant to walk large distances, at least to have food. I had opened my Google Maps (no other choice!) to look for some eatery around. I had found D'Mystique which looked pretty decent with many options. We had stepped out of the hotel we had been been staying in to find the eatery. We could not. The internet had shown it to be open and the reality had mocked us again as it had not existed at the particular time stamp we were searching. So we had chosen to eat something in the nearby café called Café Cloud 21. People stay at Cloud 9, they stay at 21!

The café had both indoor and outdoor seating area which had been impressive to see. It had a youthful vibe although it had not been full of youth. The manager was well-behaved. The service was a bit slow but we had nothing to complain about as we had a plenty of time. I had ordered a coffee and a plate of pav bhaji. My partner had ordered a plate of vegetable pakodas, a roll and a glass of mango lassi. Everything had tasted good. The pakodas were an exception; they had an unique texture and were the best ones my partner have ever had in his life as he had said. The café had a really small area. However the utilization of the available area had left me amazed. Hoping that my dear reader would check the café by own self, I leave it to you to appreciate the way they had accommodated the washbasin. In fact try finding it by yourself.

We had left the café approximately after an hour. We had then headed towards the next landmark on our itinerary. It had been named Tai Museum on the checklist. On the way to the museum, we had our eyes laid suddenly on a park which was on the left side. The park had been known as Lalit Rajkhowa Park. It had not been opened on that day. We had managed to take some pictures from outside. What I feel is that pictures can never transmit the actual experience. However they are important elements in content creation I cannot disagree. We really wanted to go inside so bad. We could see some really interesting structures and could admire them from outside the gate. Do give a visit if you do have a younger heart or want to relive your carefree childhood. Good old days!

We walked forward in anticipation to see the much discussed Tai Museum. We had no idea if it was too early or on that certain day or hour, it was closed too. A disappointment had struck our schedule again. The exterior was mesmerizing enough to celebrate the grandeur of the historically important place. However, it had come to our notice that the main sign board upon the entry of the museum had Assam Tai Jaadu Ghar written on it. That had been a bit confusing for us as Jaadu Ghar in Assamese means Magic House. At the same time, it had been able to ignite the unsplashed curiosity about the hidden secrets of the museum. We sadly had not enough time to wait for it to open. We also had planned to go towards the Jaysagar side. One should not miss the chance to explore the hidden magic of the magic house.

We at least had to click one picture for the blog, so we had the above picture for you in our phone gallery. I have kept this blog to make room for some tips I had wanted to give before you pack your bags and land in Sivasagar.

Sivasagar is a place where not many options or facilities are available as you would be using in your own cities. Hence the mindset would be testified for adjustment capabilities for the culture and conditions there. No doubt, the town is jeweled by various breathtakingly beautiful heritage and monuments. But you need to keep some things in mind for an easier trip plus less obstacles.

1. Couple On The Street Is A Big Deal

The streets have had little to no couples. Also some random people would stare at a boy and girl walking together as if something is suspicious going around which makes it a little uncomfortable to bear. While according to me there is nothing wrong in roaming around with your romantic partner as long as you do not bother others, you certainly would not want to get into conflict with the locals. It is their tradition and you should respect it especially while staying at their place. Hence I recommend to refrain from public displays of affection in case you two cannot keep your hands off each other.

2. Accommodation Mistakes

I and my partner had committed the mistake to search for hotels in the wrong place. There are tons of fraudulents near the ASTC area. You would find good accommodation options near the Siva Dol like the Hotel Talatal. If you are a couple, you might not be welcomed whole-heartedly. Do not rely upon reviews on various websites; better go check out yourselves. Also do not book Oyo Rooms beforehand as most of them do not exist anymore.

3. Transportation

If you are a Uber Baby, you need to get out of your comfort zone. There are only tempos and e-rickshaws available as local transportation options. The fare is not much, but do bargain a bit to save some money. You can later on spend your extra cash on more important things in life.

4. Money And Cash

People there unlike cities do believe in using more cash than other electronic payment methods. So do carry enough cash with you to avoid any kind of trouble.

5. Best Time To Visit

Although we had enjoyed Sivsagar to every bit, but you would be more comfortable when the sun is up or at least not raining. So choose the time wisely. There are some places we had to leave because of rainfall and we definitely regret that.

6. Market And Night Life

There is little to no night life in Sivasagar. There are few bars. Majority of the shops close at around 8 to 8:30 p.m. at night.
